The World Reimagined Project

19 Jul

Since May, pupils in our Year 5 and 6 art club have been working on a project called ‘The World Reimagined’. This a UK-wide art education project featuring globally-recognised artists to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africa and its impact on us all. It is not ‘Black History’, it is all of our history.

Primary schools involved in the project have been exploring and celebrating ‘Mother Africa’. Year 5 and 6 wanted to focus on traditional African patterns and the flags of the many different countries within the continent of Africa. They produced their own individual designs and then created a final design together as a team.  Year 5 and 6 wanted to add some key messages to make people think about how we are all human, we are all equal and no one should be treated differently because of the colour of their skin.

The World Reimagined will see a trail of large globe sculptures across 7 UK cities from 13 August to 31 October 2022, created by artists. Alongside these large sculptures, there will be smaller sculptures created by primary and secondary schools in various locations.

We hope you'll have the chance to visit The World Reimagined trail - and our Globe! - when the trails are live from 13 Aug - 31 Oct. Our globe will be on display in Birmingham Library.
